IATA has declared resolution 600b effective on 17 MAR 2008. At the same time, resolution 600b(ii) shall be rescinded on 17 MAR 2008.
Cathay Pacific (CX) shall adopt resolution 600b as from 17 MAR 2008.
Resolution 600b enables the carrier to adopt Montreal Convention l999 (MC99). One of the key features of MC99 is the unbreakable carrier limit. Another one is to remove the need of paper AWB which is the pre-requisite of e-freight.
Resolution 600b limits the carrier liability to either 17 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) per kilogram or 250 French gold frans per kilogram depending on the applicable regime, i.e. Montreal Convention or Warsaw Convention, unless a higher value is declared.
Resolution 600b permits the carrier to treat the limit of 250 French gold francs under the Warsaw Convention as the conversion equivalent of 17 SDR from the Montreal Convention.
CX has stated the carrier liability as 17 SDR per kilogram in the General Conditions of Carriage (GCC).
Freight forwarders are reminded to use the correct version of IATA resolution 600a and 600b when they issue NAWB for CX on and after 17 MAR 2008.
